I am looking for a mesquite slab in a high grain figure. The piece I am looking for needs be a minmum size of 12/4×12” x 48” with no cracks. I understand I may need buy a larger slab and cut the center out to get this piece. This is for a gun stock project.

One of our members, BlueStingrayBoots sells mesquite slabs. You might see if he can help you with this.

Yeah, he is probably out hunting wood… I think that tropical storm just went over him.

I probably have a chunk of 12/4 that size. I recently ran onto some pretty nice mesquite logs. Handling that stuff in this Texas heat wave had me seriously questioning my sanity but now that it’s slabbed and stickered I guess it was worth all the hassle. Most is in 8/4 and 4/4 but I’ve got some thick enough I reckon. It’s pretty freshly cut so the m/c will be up there but mesquite’s well known as pretty stable. What corner of the world are you in? I’m in central Texas, not too far from Temple & Waco.

I also may have a shot at a little more next week and could do some in 12/4 if there’s any wide enough.

I’ve also got several really nice bookmatched pairs in 4/4 and 8/4 (Including a couple of 4 footers from a mega-stump that are something like 20” broad) if anyone else out there in LJ-land is interested.

Sounds like a good deal. I am in south La. but do get over to Gatesville, Tx. a few times a year. If you think you have something that would fit my needs and is a nice piece of wood is there any chance you could send me a picture and your asking price. I am in no Big hurry so if you think your next cutting may be better I can wait.

Thanks

JR
