I recenly started the finishing aspect of my jet black walnut executive desk. The dye was Behlens jet black ngr dye. So a week after dying the desk i sprayed 2 wet coats of GF pre cat sanding sealer. The coats looked great. I then laid down two coats of gloss Gf precat utrethane. Now i waited btween 45 min between coats. i live in Az and it is @ 110 degrees. Last weekend it was a little humid i didnt realize this till i was dripping sweat once all the coats were done. The desk looked stunning. The dye was so dark it showed texture but no variance in shadeing in the grain pattern. The next morning i opened the garage door and when the sun light hit the side of the desk i saw a hazy pattern. Kinda like stage one blushing. I dont want to sand it all the way down because i did that prior due to a bad batch of urethane that stayed gummy and i dont want to take a chance of going through the veneers. Now i have wet sanded the finish about half way down to moderately fill the grain. I test a known spot and the very light hazy flame pattern is stil there but only visible in direct sun light or bright light. So to hide the mark i was either going to drop the finish to satin or lay a few coats of transtinted urethane. So any suggestions ? Also if you would go the tinted clear coat how much black transtint would you use in the urethane to add depth and mask the marks without making the peice look like a foggy black mess. Thanks for everyones suggestions in advance. |
