Hi all,

I have 5 wooden planes hand made by Steve Knight from 2001.

1.) 24” jointer
2:) 14” jack
3:) 12” scrub plane
4:) 8” smoother
5:) 6.5” smoother

I have owned all of these since they were new, and they are all very rarely used. I just never could get the hang of adjusting them.

$450

Hi Jim,

If I’m not mistaken these all have 1/4” irons. I can definitely verify when I get off work (about 8 hours from now).

Jim,

I found this article by Steve Knight (http://www.wkfinetools.com/tMaking/art/knightTools/knight'sPlanes-1.asp) – It contains the following sentence “All my planes feature 1/4″ tool steel irons hardened to RC 62 a for a long-lasting cutting edge.”(Starrett Tool steel)

Hope this helps,

Jim, I hope you spent at least some of your weekend researching these planes. There is nothing wrong with them and no need to worry about steel, or anything else.

Do we have a deal?

I have a Knight smoother from about the same period – as I recall he was using
cryongenic A2 steel for the irons. Mine is a high-angle (york pitch) plane.
I had to replace the wedge block a couple of times because the original
cracked on me and so did my first replacement. It’s a cool plane because it
can be pushed or pulled equally well – and while it’s not my first choice
for most work because of the angle, for tricky woods it comes in handy.

At the risk of resurrecting an old thread, I am a big fan of Steve Knight’s planes. By any chance, are these still available?
Thanks.

festus77;
Can’t pm you cause I just joined; the website won’t accept it.
Anyway, I’m curious as to how much you want for each or both of the remaining planes. Neither are the one I was really interested in, but still, I’m curious. Maybe you could pm me, since you’ve been around for a while. Let me know how to reply to you directly.
Thanks
