Evening All,

First post here. I’ve found some great advice and insight in the past but had a very specific question. Looking to buy my first BS, an found a couple on CL.

delta 28-243 or jet jbs-14

The Delta is an hour away, 1/2hp motor, and no fence. Open base.

The Jet is down the street, 1hp, and includes a fence. Closed base.

I will use it for general, occasional woodworking. Could resaw, but never have before.

Both essentially the same price.

Any help with advice and pros and cons would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

Without researching it to see where they’re made the fence plus more power plus closed base AND closer to you make the jet the clear winner, unless the delta is a US made model and /or in better shape. Depending what fence is on the jet you might end up tossing it anyway – I have and recommend the kreg fence.

Assuming both saws are in the same condition I think you will feel the extra 1/2 hp.
I wouldn’t pick the Delta just because it has a USA sticker on it.
I am fairly familiar with the Jet saws and I like them.
There are multiple versions of the 1hp Jet closed stand bandsaw, some come from the factory with polyurethane tires, roller bearings blade guides, 6” riser block, and the fence you mentioned.
These are all desirable features.
The deluxe model also has quick blade tension release.

Hey Guys,

Me again. Thanks for the previous price. By the time I got to the Jet, it was gone. Now I’m onto another. It is a Delta 28-231. Looks like it is nice shape, some rust on the table, and an old blade. I can’t find much information online on the saw. Any information, recommendations, and advice would be helpful. The seller is local an looking for $400 for the saw.

Thanks,

Greg
