CJ,
Can’t help you with this but may I say that I am very happy with my old Makita circular saw. It has been a real workhorse for at least 15 years.

I have an older Porter Cable 743, blade left. It’s out of production –
and aside from not having a brake it’s my favorite circular saw I’ve
used.

Porter Cable must be run by morons, because the 743 is an amazing
saw. There’s a right hand version too, the 347. There are a few out
there with brakes as well.

The blade on the 743, without the brake, doesn’t coast too long –
I used it for years on a panel saw setup with very good results
and fast stoppage.

If you don’t have a specific reason for wanting the 315, I’d look for
the 743 or 347. Some reviewers saw the later generation “mag”
saws weren’t as good.

I have a box of power tools including a circular saw that I am selling for a friend. If you might be interested PM me and I’ll give you the details on it and pics.

Agree with Loren. My 347 is the best circ saw I’ve ever used, and ya CAN’T have it.

I have a Porter Cable 315-1 Type 2 Builders Saw. It runs perfectly and looks like it may have been used only a couple times. There is electric tape at the plug but a carpenter friend says it looks like it was too much saw for the original owner (my father). He also said it was left handed? If you’re interested, I can take photos and email them.

CJ, your original premise to acquire a 315-1 was wise. Don’t give up. I bought one new back in the late 80’s and intended to retire with that saw until it was stolen in the late 90’s. Since then I have had several disappointing saws always comparing them to the features on the 315. Lately with the advent of the internet, I have been able to put together one saw from several saws that I acquired. Certain parts are still available, but its really hard to restore one to near brand new condition.
