I received a threatening email today from someone that knew my email address and password to THIS SITE. This is the ONLY site that uses that email and password combination. I’m pretty sure lumberjocks has had a data spill or been hacked! I would recommend changing your password ASAP. Remember to not use a password that you use anywhere else!
I’m actually pretty upset at the amount of spam comments I’ve been receiving on my projects lately and have actually had to remove some of them. Where are the admin’s of this site? When I joined (a long time ago) Debbie kept things in tip top shape.

Every site I am on virtually uses email and password. I was here during former management, in my opinion it’s handled way better now.

I emailed Cricket. Hopefully she’ll chime in soon. I asked her to let us know if we do need to change our passwords

As far as the other management verses the newer one goes…. I think it’s always been Cricket since I’ve been on here and I personally think she does pretty dang good especially since there’s been a crap ton of bickering the past few months

Just as likely, LJs is fine and it is the OP who has been hacked.

Thanks for the vote of confidence clin. Have fun with your nasty emails. I received 2 in the last week. Both with my email and PW combo for this site. As said before, this is the ONLY site associated with that email PW combination. Verified by a search with my PW encryption program.
I’ll apologize for the comment about current moderators. It was said in the heat of the moment.
But look, shouldn’t you be changing your passwords periodically anyway? Just trying to make everyone aware of a potential problem.

I guess that you should be happy that it’s just this site, and not some other sites.

In any event, as someone that works in the wonderful world of networking, it’s always a good idea to change passwords if you have a suspicion that something is up. You should also make sure you never open an attachment or link in these emails, unless you are using a VM. It’s a huge mistake.

ALL of my sites and their “Sign In Name/E-mail Address and PASSWORD” are in Memory by My Avast Anti Virus.

I click on my Desktop Shortcut for the site and there they are all filled in on the site I wanted. I just click on “Sign In” and I’m in. 2 years now and no problems.

I can change any of them through Avast “Password Manger” almost instantly.

This Site has NOT been Hacked and there’s no need to change My Password.

Respectfully, the title of this thread is beyond irresponsible and will be changed. If you were truly concerned, why wouldn’t you have used the contact us link at the bottom of every page of this site before now? I have been the admin here for 4 1/2 years.

According to your profile page, you have posted less than 20 times in 3407 days. Until last night, you had not posted here since February of 2010. You posted this same report on an 8-year-old thread last night, which will be removed.

All the spam on your projects? Did you flag it? I personally check flagged posts multiple times a day and take care of them in a timely fashion, as needed. That being said, I do take a day off every now and then and even sleep occasionally. (grin)

Seriously though, if you are being threatened, contact the authorities.

All members should be changing their passwords on a regular basis and should not be using the same password on multiple sites.

This site isn’t one I worry about. There’s nothing on here that identifies me personally, where I live specifically and definitely nothing about my finances. I’ve had the same sign on (an old e-mail address) and password since I started many years ago. No problems at all. I’m not clear how knowing this site’s sign on and password can lead to the OP getting an e-mail from any one. Do they use the same credentials for your e-mail?

I have to add my own thanks for the good job Cricket and others at the site are doing.

I’ve been hacked! Someone logged into LJs as me and posted that ugly music stand project. I would never build something like that!

Just kidding.

We don’t get snow very often down here in Texas, so I do most of my camping during the fall and winter months when temperatures aren’t in the triple digits. (smiles)
