Topic tags/keywords: google plus social networking

Social networking is big for the woodworking community, it seems. LJ is a community in and of itself, but many people extend their hobby or business into venues like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Google started a new service called Google+ that closely resembles Facebook, but fixes a lot of the problems.

I’m curious if anyone else has started using yet and what your thoughts are. For anyone interested in getting an invite, pm me and I’ll send an invite when they open up again.

I didn’t get the invite YET, but if Google+ does what it says it will do, I will likely start transitioning to that instead of Facebook. Facebook has really been a privacy nightmare. I have a good number of strong opinions that I don’t mind sharing in my own social circles, but I don’t necessarily want my employers to know where I stand on certain social / political type issues. Facebook does not give me the ability to filter access to content based on roles / relationships.

Wish I could, they aren’t accepting more yet.

I wonder if this will fly farther than their “Wave” program? I think only one other person and myself signed up for that!

Oh man.. I was all over Wave. It was pretty slick.

FYI, G+ is already a huge hit. They had to block new invites and still haven’t re-opened because the demand was so great. The privacy controls are superb, the interface is so simple and clean, and video chat is integrated.

I’m a Google+-er (or Gircle as some of my friends have described it)
I really like the privacy controls as well – which circle of friends you will share info with, specific postings with—now, all I need to do is connect with some friends so I can add them! :)

If there’s one company I trust less than Facebook, it’s Google. I wouldn’t be surprised if FB implements more customizable posting privacy options in the not-so-distant future in response to G+.

I joined up on G+ the day it started. I’m using it a LOT .. I like it. I will keep using it.

I’m actually surprised to see that among maybe five of the largest groups on G+ that I’ve seen is the woodworking community. It is by far my largest circle and get notifications all day long that people are adding me. if anyone else here wants to add me.. If its apparent that you’re a woodworker or that we share interests, I’ll be sure to add in return. One of my favorites to keep tabs on is Marc Spagnuolo (the guy from The Wood Whisperer). The idea of real-time crowd sourcing on projects is very cool.

I’m there, but don’t think I’ll be using it much. I pretty much picked LJ as “my woodworking community” and this is where I post WW related things, I’m not really going to start posting things everywhere on the web which ends up being redundant and time consuming.

not really into this ‘online social network’ thing, but Goog+ does have some nice features that can be useful at times.
