Recently, I posted a forum topic regarding a neighbor just gifting me some fantastic Bessey clamps that he had no use for. In that post I mentioned that that type of luck rarely, if ever, comes my way. I may have to change my outlook on the frequency of that type of event occurring in my life.

While conducting my daily perusal of the Tools for sale on Craigslist, I came across a posting by a seller from just over an hour away. He was selling a 6” jointer, a floor standing drill press, a 1.5 HP dust collector and a 14” bandsaw, all made by Grizzly. He was asking $200 for the jointer and $275 for the drill press. As I already have a Grizzly 14” bandsaw and a DC, I wasn’t interested in those items. I sent him a text and arranged to meet him this morning.

The entire drive over, I was preparing myself for the worst. I knew I would either find rusted out and inoperable machinery OR I would be kidnapped and forced to join a cult. As the title indicates, deals like this don’t come my way often and I’m always pessimistic regarding suspiciously good prices. As I pulled up to the house, I saw no reason to fear for my safety. In fact, it was a very nice house with a stand alone shop behind it. I got out and wasn’t immediately hit with a tranq dart, so I felt pretty good.

The gentleman selling the items came out and met me, and took me to the shop where I was able to look over the tools. Shockingly enough, they were in really good condition! There was a minimal amount of surface rust on the cast iron jointer tables and the drill press table. I offered $425 for the pair and he accepted!

After getting them home, cleaned up and fine tuned, I am thrilled to report that they both work perfectly as expected. Also, as I can now sell the bench top Porter Cable 6” jointer and my HF bench top drill press, this huge upgrade for my shop is going to end up costing me around $150!!!

Thanks for reading!

You did good. Did the PO say why he was selling his tools?

Blaster – family was moving and he was downgrading from a stand alone shop to a 2 car garage. He said he didn’t think he would have space for all of the tools. I am happy to squeeze them into my 2 car…

Sean – hate that I stole it out from under you, but I promise that I’ll take good care of the jointer.

To all: Thanks for the congrats. I am really thrilled that I was able to upgrade some tools at a fantastic price!

Looks like you got the press with the better style depth adjustment too. My luck is worse than yours, if a deal like that happened to me I’d run it all home and go into hiding for about a month!!!

I think you did very well. They appear to be in great shape. If I were you I’d run out and buy a lottery ticket before the luck wears off.
