I’ve noticed a drop in participation on these forums. I’m guessing people are going on vacation this time of year.

Guess it depends if you are a “member” or just a member of the forum? LOL!

It seems seasonal. Those of us with unheated shops in the north are just coming out of hibernation and making some dust.

I agree, it has slowed down over the last year or so. It’s also summer, I do a lot less woodworking in the summer. Remember this site is a mix of hobbyist and professionals. The mix is why I like it.

Across all subjects all forum traffic is down.
I have not been a regular user on Lumberjacks long enough know if postings vary seasonally but over the last couple months there’s been a very noticeable decline here.

I think it is because whenever a new member shows up with a simple question about going into backyard plywood mass-production we all mock him mercilessly ;)

All forum traffic is in decline, (with the exception of the “mega” forum reddit) due in large part to the growth of other platforms.

One of the strongest running forum topics on LJs is the weather reports….The first half we had over 10,000 + post, and now on the second half we are at 1,500+ and going strong…..!!

I agree that year around traffic is down. I think Youtube is a major contributing factor along with Reddit. I also think that younger people are less likely to be interested in woodworking than older ones.

Pretty sad thread new member ask a question that was getting answered until the hur dur alder hur dur guys. Start making the thread junk. So I would say they are a good reason why participation is down.

I used to be MUCH more active in the forums up until 2.5 years ago or so…. Been dealing with family issues (several relatives with cancer), so, yeah forums haven’t been a priority for me.

It was a troll asking stupid questions on purpose. The questions kept getting dumber so you might want to know a bit more why people started turning the thread to junk.

To me, participation has gone down and I read this less often is that there seems to be a few more people now taking it upon themselves to be the forum police and authorities on everything and trying to tell others what is right and wrong. Then, there are the trolls and pot stirrers making threads just to get people riled up.
