Hi! I just joined LunberJocks, and I have a rules question. The last thing I want to do is break rules. I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, and if not, please let me know!

My purpose in joining LumberJocks is to join a community of fellow woodworkers, learn some things, and maybe occasionally contribute something.

My question is this: Is it OK to mention my YouTube woodworking channel here? Like I said, my main goal in joining LumberJocks is the community, NOT to promote my YouTube channel. With that said, it would be natural for me to want to mention the channel at times, and maybe even post about a video I uploaded.

So what are the rules regarding this, either written or just understood? Even if you were to say I can’t ever mention my channel, I’d still want to be a member. I’m just trying to make sure I don’t do anything wrong, or distasteful.

I may call myself “Newbie Dan”, but I certainly don’t want to make any n00b mistakes here, if I can help it. :)

Thanks!

LOL, join the club. There are countless youtube folks on here. I don’t watch amateur videos, but I suppose some others do.

Welcome.

Welcome to the community, Dan!

It is okay to mention your YouTube channel, but the only place it is okay to actually promote it is on your profile and in your signature.

As an example, you couldn’t start a thread to promote your YouTube channel. However, videos from your channel can be PART of your posts. If someone asks a question, you can include a link to a specific video as PART of your response.

Let me know if that helps.

Dan, joining Lumberjocks is a smart thing to do for a woodworker. Congratulations and welcome to Lumberjocks.

I’m sure the joke’s on me here somewhere, and I’m all for that, believe me! But what did I “just did”?

You just promoted the fact that you have a utube channel simply by asking the question. Welcome to LJ’s

Ah, I get it. At least I didn’t put it in the title of the topic, right? :)

Your thread asking about the rule was fine and I appreciated it.

Rule number1: Don’t make Cricket unhappy. She is such a NICE lady but you don’t want to make her MAD…

Anyone know where I can find a YouTube channel about woodworking?

Welcome, Dan.
