I’m about to cut down quite a few black jack oak trees on my father’s land. Has anyone turned a bowl or anything else using this type of wood? I’m curious because in Oklahoma, most people just call it garbage wood.

Yeah, I searched the site first, but I never saw anything about wood turning using it.

Nothing truer that what Brad stated above.. I read where people talk about crappy wood. Sometimes that’s the prettiest stuff out there. That said, some woods won’t be usable for turning, but will have other uses. Go for it, and follow any suggestions on how to treat it while turning like letting it dry for some time, turning to the 10% rule, or turn it to completion and let it do what wood does….....Jerry (in Tucson)
