I’ve been looking for s good benchtop bandsaw and heard the masterforce is pretty good and basically the same as the Rikon 10-305 that gets great reviews. The owner says it’s barely used. Hard to tell from the photo, but looks ok. It’s been listed for 2 months at $200.

Good deal or pass?

if it has been listed for two months, it is probably sold and he never deleted it.
I would call him to see what the status is – if indeed it is still for sale,
after two months, I would think several people have looked at it and found some issues
that they didn’t like.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like a great deal for a band saw that’s about $100 more new off the shelf, but the 2 months listing worries me. The guy still has it and was quick to accept $150 from his $200 asking price.

Seems like I always want to guy good used tools instead of new, but when it comes down to finding a good deal, I always have that voice in the back of my head telling me if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

It may look like a Rikon, but it is probably a poor clone of the Rikon made in China. I personally wouldn’t buy it at $150. Masterforce, I believe is a store brand of Menards or some other big box store. I would not buy a saw less than 14”. A 10” saw is only good for really small work. Getting into serious large projects requires a larger and more powerful saw. That is just my opinion.

I had actually heard a lot of good things about the band saw from others who have seen it, the Rikon 10-305 and the similar craftsman and say that they are all basically identical in build and materials, which is why I was interested.

The only reason I’m looking at a benchtop model is because I’m working out of a 1 car garage that still have to fit a car into it when I’m not working. I’m just a weekend hobbyist, so even a higher end benchtop saw is a big ticket item for me.

Have your say...
