I would like to know if anyone has designs or knowledge of where to obtain plans for chairs for men of stature? Being a robust southerner ( 6’2” & 330lb ), I find most camping chair inadequate. They are either not designed to hold more than 250lbs, or designed for someone shorter, making extricating oneself from it difficult.

I used the search tool, and found the 2×4 chair, but that was all. Surely I’m not the only man of girth in these forums…. If you don’t have plans, could I at least get pictures of your self crafted chairs??

I am 6-4 and close to 250. I found these plans:

And made a couple of these chairs just by increasing the dimensions, which was easy.

I made the green one first and didn’t like how the paint lasted so then made the other one and sprayed it with deck stain and it has held up real well.

I’m guessing most plans should work regardless of size. Just adjust by an inch or two for width, and maybe the seat height/back height an inch or two as well.

Go to my projects and look at the tall folding chairs. The ones of Jatoba or hard maple will hold up twice what you weigh[but they are considerably heavier than the recycled doug fir]. I have sold quite a few of these to big guys. They dont kill your back due to the shape and theyre easy to get out of due to the height. Ive never tried to ship these as it would probably be too costly. I see you are in Ark so you could come to Tulsa and check them out/take pics, etc. PM me if you are ever close to Tulsa.
