New to the forum and the activity of working with wood here, and have a decent set of equipment, but I think this should be the last piece to work out and have the following dilemmas

in the the 0457 and the 513 series,
Pricing these things out shows he smaller capacity 14” 0457 higher than the 17” 513 series,, i cant see much diff in specs other that ball bearings vs euro style roller on the 513. the motor HP is same, and the 513 doesnt include the resaw fence.

I am somewhat new to this, but if you were gonna get a 17 inch, seems the next step up from the 0457 would be the 513×2,

as always, so many options, and being new, not sure of which is most useful, cast iron vs alum, dbl ball bears vs, ball bearing, vs euro roller, that sort of thing. I can spend the 995 base, as I hate to buy a lesser size and then have to go to my friends an then borrow his. I like to build (let me clarify) try to build larger things, so that is why I am more inclined to the 17 inch. but is the 513 that much less a machine. I would rather spend 200 or so less, but not if those smaller additions make the unit more reliable, you know what I am trying to say?

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide. I thnk I am heading in teh Grizzly direction, so a different mfg comparison I am not really looking for but a item comparative. Again thanks for any thoughts

What are you using the bandsaw more for? Resaw?

currently dont have one. I buy cypress in 2 inch thickness and 10-12 or widths, so i end up doing a lot of planing, so i am guessing re sawing would be in my future for this need. Also to incorporate the advantages of a bandsaw where sometimes the other tools are less useful.

Its not for heavy heavy use, but for the extra 2oo over the 513, are additional features worth the cost. I do see a cast iron trunion is on the x2 and a resaw fence included and not on the 513, but is that an essential feature. I guess thats where my questions are heading, aside from the 17inch feature, do those 200 or so dollars of features make it worth that or are they simply minor things that will not impact usage to any noticable degree.

or would i better just better off with the 513 and less bulk and weight, get a more specific fence/resaw fence and addl blades.

I went through the same thought process as you before buying my 17” extreme series Grizzly. My choice was made on the following features: cast iron wheels are better than aluminum, cast iron trunions are more stable/less apt to be warped if you run a heavy log across it,resaw fence was included, ball bearing guides were standard,12” resaw capacity without a riser block. I have never regretted buying the bigger saw and have done things with it I hadnt contemplated; resawing lumber from firewood logs, etc, etc. I did add the Carter Stabilizer which I have gotten a lot of use and enjoyment from. I also got lucky and bought mine when they had a free shipping deal going. Hope this helps. Send me a pm if you have specific questions.
