I’m building a blanket chest out of cherry for my daughter-in-law and I will be lining it with cedar. What I’m not sure about is this, should I put a finish on the inside of the cherry before I add the cedar lining? Or, should I leave the inside of the box unfinished underneith the cedar lining?

I built two cherry blanket chests and rather than line them with cedar, I used cedar for the bottom. The cedar still smells great after about 12 years.
