Hello all! I live in Portland as you might have already guessed and I’m looking to expand my local resources when it comes to expanding my woodworking knowledge. This site is amazing and I am all for it, however, it would be nice to meet with some people in person to go over projects, get and give advice, etc. I am really in my infancy when it comes to woodworking and therefore am very hesitant about and second guess pretty much everything I do. I have looked into taking classes but the ones at MHCC have been canceled every semester due to lack of attendance and the NW Woodworking Studio is just a tad out of my budget at $750 per 4 day class. So…if anyone in the Portland area wants to start a local club or perhaps knows of an existing one please let me know.

Hi malorty -

I have been lurking, but joined just so I could reply to your post. There is a local guild that I joined a few months back, they have been extremely helpful and frequently have seminars for relatively low prices taught by the guild members.

I’m also just starting out and am taking a beginning class through the guild.

I hope this helps out!

This may be farther than you want to travel, but the senior center in Salem has a very nice wood shop.

Have your say...
