wanted to upgrade my mitersaw station and put my miter saw table flush with my workbench so i can use my kreg measuring sytem. Anyone have and ideas or pics. im stumped. heres a pic of my bench. I wanna put the saw where my toolbox is.

ps. I would like to be able to still use my bench for other things when im not using the miter saw. How the heck can i make the fence able to move back and forth?

Build a small cabinet for the saw to sit on. Just subtract the exact height of saw from height of work table and that gives you the height of cabinet needed. I also subtract 1/16 so I can shim saw up to flush with table top. Then the cabinet can serve as drawer space for you.

You need to go to lowes or a bookstore and pick up the Tools, Jigs magazine. it has a picture of a miter station on the front of it with the Kreg system on it.

Regardless of what you eventually build, one feature you should probably incorporate is a height adjustment mechanism for your miter saw stand. By that I mean a mechanism that raises and lowers your saw so that you can dial it in to exactly flush with your table, and if you buy a new saw years down the road you will be able to easily dial that saw in as well.

This does not have to be overly complicated. I made mine by using 4 bolts sticking up through the frame. The miter saw rested on a frame that in turn rested on nuts screwed onto the bolts. To adjust the miter saw up and down I just turned each of the 4 nuts. Only took a few minutes to adjust and not much effort to build.

You will have difficulty in using the Kreg Trak system without constructing a stock support shelf. The Kreg stops and guide channel must be mounted on a verticle piece 90 Deg from the stock support shelf. The installation instructions included with the Kreg KMS8000 Trak system provide dimensions on constructing the stock support shelf.

To maintain measurment accuracy, plan on permantly mounting the stock support shelf and the miter saw. The Kreg Trak system can only maitain its accuracy by not allowing movement between the saw and Kreg Trak.

From the picture shown, you will have difficulty setting up a miter saw station atop the bench. You should consider invesitng in a portable station which can be quickly setup when necessary. Fastcap developed a Best Fence system which had the saw table, dust hood and fence which looks to be well though out.
