I love Lumberjocks and the community it represents. I am NOT a fan of the cumbersome interface. Compared to other social media websites (like facebook) Lumberjocks is a dinosaur. Just dealing with photos and videos is unnecessarily difficult. I shouldn't have to upload a separate app (like photobucket) or deal with html scripting to handle media that I want to post. I should be able to update things like "My Shop", but I can't. I think we would have a much more robust participation if the hosts of this website would bring it in line with current technology.

I agree that posting assets can be cumbersome on here but hosting images costs a ton of money so I am not surprised that a free site doesnt host user images.

Careful what you wish for in regards to platform changes. There are a lot of really crappy forums out there. I love that Lumberjocks has an aggregated view of all the different forums. Woodworking forums, for some reason, seem to always have 50 different forums to post things which I view as completely unnecessary. The other feature that is great is that I can easily jump into a thread at the point I previously stopped reading. It's really frustrating to to start reading a thread and come back a day or two later and not know where in the thread you left off.

Apparently you guys missed the
button at the top of the text box. No need to go to photobucket or get any third party apps.

If this site ever gets as bad, slow and bloated as facebook, I think you will see a lot of people leave.

Cheers,
Brad

I was going to say…I actually like that here o. LJ I don't have to upload to imgur and then post a link back. Direct upload of images from my phone or PC is great. The rotation issue does pop up, but that aside it is nice they host images for you.

I actually like how everything is laid out on LJ. Not a typical forum format and that's a great thing. Easy to access threads, easy to follow threads, relatively easy to post projects. The only complaint I have is the search engine; that's it. Very minor when everything else is quite user friendly and easy to read, IMO.

I think Cricket and her group do a fantastic job. This is a forum, not a social media site. There is a difference. This is a place for discussion, not bombardment of useless information. This is what the internet was built on. I remember forums before they looked like this and you had to copy, cut, paste, and decode pictures on third party software.

Keep up the good work Cricket and all.

I'm a fan. I like the reviews, the forum, and the blogs. I like the way the site is set up. I've never had any difficulty uploading or posting anything. The one thing I hope never changes here is the polite nature of all the active people on here. I have my students at my school check out Lumberjocks regularly for project ideas. This is not a site that I am afraid to have young people see and I love that about this site. Keep up the good work Lumberjocks and to all the members on this site I say THANK YOU for maintaining decency and decorum. This is one of the best online communities on the world wide web.

Not sure I have ever posted a photo here so I wasnt sure of the process.

I dig LJ and, as someone already pointed out, it's a forum, not a social media site.

This is almost the only woodworking site I visit. Not very many swollen egos, and those are easy to ignore. Lots of friends with great advice to visit every day. A family friendly place that I would send my grandchildren to learn courtesy and respect for others. PLEASE NEVER CHANGE IT! I want to be able to visit with these folks for the rest of my life.

I have to say I think the LJ platform is about as user friendly as it gets. I visit some of the other sites, but rarely participate because threads seems to get buried, posting pics is an ordeal and they have way too many sub-forums. I like the "Pulse" feature and use it to view active topics as well as to see if there are responses to my threads and threads I'm watching. LJs platform is unencumbered by bloat and that's what I like about it.

LJ works as is so why mess with a good thing? I have no complaints about posting pictures or text. I like the layout and it is a lot better, IMHO than FB, which I just cancelled. Cricket and company do an excellent job!!!

Count me as +1 happy member of LJ's. I have no issues uploading images. Do not bother much with the HTML options, other than the YouTube link for videos.
I like the layout, format, the people, the opinions, the reviews. This is the only site I actively engage with since day 1 of jumping into woodworking for a reason.
Although, I do not favor the 500+ replies to a continuous forum post (saws of your dreams, stumpy, etc). They should be their own group to more easily follow. But that's just me :)

Me too. Good suggestion. I don't follow posts with 500+ replies(except for the box swap) either. Having them be their own group is a good idea. I still thoroughly enjoy LumberJocks
