Good morning, its a beautiful day in Montana. Do any of you LJ members know where I can get exotic hardwood dowels? I see suppliers have domestic dowels, Cherry, Walnut etc. but no exotics. Any help will be appriciated. Thanks Fisherdoug

It’s probably better just to make your own out of square stock.
That way you can match it with whatever project you are working on using scraps.
Lee Valley have these.
Then there are home made jigs like this, or this.
All of these are probably cheaper too.
Hope this helps.

You might try calling Bell Forest Products. They have a few on their page, and they might be willing to make custoim sizes for you.

Making your own on a router table is REALLY quick and easy. I use the same method cited above in Wood magazine. The cool part is you can pick some really nicely grained/figured wood and come up with some beautiful dowels. I just made some walnut dowels incorporating sap and heart woods and they turned out NICE. Good luck.
