On a future project later this summer I want to make free floating shelves about 2’x2’ that will be able to hold upto 10 to 20lbs inserted into dado’s in 6×6x8 posts. So Im wondering how thick the shelves have to be and how deep the dado’s would need to be to maintain a sturdy level support.

Is there any sites of books that anyone knows that explains wieght tolerances of specific woods for specific applications?
