I found a set of two boards that would be great for a coffee table that I want to make but I dont know if they are a good deal. The first is 2.25”x17.5”x11’8” long and the second one is 2”x18”x11’3” long and the total price for them to plane and sand to a rough final thickness is $625 deliverd to my house. So is this a good deal or not?

That’s approximately 72 bf which would make the cost about $8.70 per bf, including shipping. Probably not bad if they are good quality and a true bookmatch.

Good Luck!

Remember, no pictures, it didn’t happen…

well , just a few weeks ago i bought some beautiful walnut from a sawyer who had these boards for about 8 years, they are about 14 inches wide and 15 feet long…there 8/4 boards…but i got them for 2 bf…now thats a good deal in my book…what your going to pay for these is pretty high per bf…do you not have any sawyers in your area that could get you some cherry…i know they prob wont be book matches boards but for over 600 bucks…you could get a lot more cherry and already milled to 8/4..but i guess your wanting them to be thick for your top…i dont know , the price just doesnt sound very good to me…maybe im spoiled by what ive been paying for the lumber i get here…good luck with however you decide to go…i would like to see some pictures if you buy it..

For cherry that wide, I would say that it is a little better than fair price. not a tremendous deal, but if you like the boards, you are certainly not getting ripped off.

Have your say...
