Good day fellow jocks! It is finally getting nice in the midwest and time to start my poker table project…I have started the base and know my plan but planning ahead (a rare thing for me) but i need to figure out what finish to use on the racetrack. I have been thinking some poly will be nice…the wood will be birch ply with a simi dark stain…my other thought was to use lacquer but as far as i recall its not as strong…and with poker chips and hands being placed on the track i would like something strong with a nice shine. Thoughts?

Shellac is a nice option, it will wear as other finishes do but can be lightly sanded and recoated at any time making a recoat easier.
