Hi guys -

Brand new here. I posted a message on the Nextdoor app to my neighbors stating that I was in the market for a used TS. One of my neighbors has offered me a FREE Craftsman 113.298470 with a Serial Code Date 7173.00096.

Few questions:

1. Is there any way to know the manufactured date based on the date code?

2. I am brand new to table saws and I am acquiring it for “around the house” homeowner stuff. What should I do to the saw first? Seeing as how it’s free, I’d really like to bring it back to it’s origianl life as I have an appreciation for older things like this.

My limited research suggests maybe replacing the belt with one from HF to help with any vibration.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Todd

The Craftsman 113. series saw were good saws. They sold millions of them, so parts are available. Clean it up first then get the manual, they are available on line, and go through the alignment process. A poorly aligned saw can be prone to kick back. Review the safety material in the manual if you are unfamiliar with table saws and learn the things that you should never do, like use the miter gauge and the rip fence at the same while making a through cut.

Get the FREE saw and then the manual. The only place I know of to decipher the numerical is at Sears, or, if Brad , aka MrUnix is listening, he can tell you where to find it.
