Two questions:

1-Where can I find brass hardware for making handtools? Knurled nuts and dowel nuts seem tough to come by.

2-My cousin is expecting her first child next month. My wife gave me a picture of a step stool/mini seat she wants me to make for them. The design calls for a couple ~1/4 X 1 1/2” bolts to secure the backrest. I’m thinking of using brass due to the asthetic/corrosion qualities. I don’t see the backrest having to support much of a load, given the stool is intended for a small kid. Nonetheless, brass is a soft metal, and I’m wondering if it might be too soft for this application?

Thanks

1) What tools are you thinking of making? What tools and machines have you got? (If you have a small metal work lathe then knurled nuts etc are easy to make ).
2)I would be hesitant to advise on that question without seeing the actual design but you may be feel better if you added an extra bolt or two or increased the size to 5/16ths or 3/8ths.

Have your say...
