Topic tags/keywords: cutlist sketchup plugin question

My Cutlist plugin for sketchup, which allows you to create materials lists and an optimized material layout directly from a sketchup project has enjoyed good success since the many upgrades and the release of the latest version 4.1.1 here on LJ about 6 months ago.

I track all the downloads of the plugin and it has been very steady at around 2-3 downloads every day, totalling over 20,000 downloads. I’m very proud and honored that it has achieved such modest success.

In the last two days, there has been a sudden upsurge in the number of downloads – more like 50-60/day.

Maybe someone here knows why the sudden huge interest. I obviously can’t keep track of every mention of Cutlist on the internet in blogs and forums and I haven’s seen anything in the usual spots I frequent or been informed of any recent mention of it anywhere.

Does anyone know why the sudden interest? Is it a seasonal thing? Do woodworkers get serious after Easter or is it something else.

Thanks for any ideas or hints.

It probably got indexed somewhere. The onslaught of downloads
may let up soon.

There are thousands of people who download tons of free software,
like an obsession. I don’t know what they do it for, because you
can post the dumbest aps in software directories and if it’s a new
listing, lots of people will download it.

It must be a great app Steve and the word is spreading.

Thanks Mike. It still seems strange. Nearly 200 downloads in just 3 days, when normally it would be 6-10. Did someone translate it into Chinese?

Thanks Loren – I’m sure it’s something like that – but I wish I knew – and I hope these are legitimate downloads and not some new hackers scheme to attack via plugins.

My plugin is hosted on and the number of downloads is not a concern but the source of the sudden change is a curiosity.
