I’m thinking of buying a bandsaw instead of a table saw due to a small shop. I found this on craigslist. Is it worth it? http://kalamazoo.craigslist.org/tls/2342803131.html

A little pricey, but a fine machine. The 14 inchers I’ve seen go around $200, however if it’s a really clean machine I’d say go for it.

I thought it might be a little much since it doesn’t appear to have a fence. I’m going to call the guy tomorrow and talk to him. Do you know what model it is?

Hard to tell from the picture but it is a time tested design…the big cast iron spine is the basis for many asian clones….and you should be able to find a riser kit for it to increase your height. When you call him, get him to tell you the model number, and post back. BTW no fence, no problem. My fence is an aluminum extrusion and two c clamps…not that I use it much. My band saw likes to make curvy things.

$300 isn’t a ridiculous price, considering it includes 12 presumably usable blades. But its not the deal of the century either. I’d be interested to see the motor rating. I’d pay the $300 if it has a 1hp or greater motor. I’d probably offer $250 if its 3/4 hp, and put the $50 toward a stronger motor.

Chris,
Are you still looking for a table saw? I have an older Craftsman that I am going to sell. I am just south of you in Luther.
