I have been getting the following pop-up for the last 2 days on the site

I can’t close out the pop-up and the only way to get rid of it is to close the browser. Any ideas? I’m using an iPad

I’ve seen that sort of stuff on unmaintained sites
where it’s been inserted by hackers. On a safe
site like LJ I’d presume it’s on your end. I’m not
up to date on this stuff though so it could be
something else.

The easy way to look at these scams and see if
they whether they are an annoyance or a malignancy
is to type part of the phrase into Google and see
what’s been written about the particular scam.

I am having the same problem with both my IPhone and IPad. It only occurs when LJ’s is up and does not happen on my MacBook Pro. I installed ADBlock but still getting it. I think we need to kick it up to Cricket.

on your iPad quit the browser, not just closing the window. If that doesn’t work, restart your iPad.

It’s not Amazon or LJ, it’s the browser. I quit using Chrome mobile because of it. If you clear your browser history it will stop temporarily. I switched to MS Edge and no more pop ups. Unfortunately something about the LJ site screws up Firefox mobile.

The best solution is to take how iPad out to the shop, find your best hammer, and use that to close the browser. If you close it hard enough I can guarantee you won’t get that pop up on your iPad again…

Then go buy an Android.

TungOil,

I am not an iPad user but suspect somewhere in the tablet settings or browser settings may be a place where not only the browser history, as suggested by Woodknack, but the cache and cookies can be cleared. I suspect the problem lies with the cache or cookies.

In addition there may be a place on the iPad (tablet settings or browser settings) where the browser can be set to automatically clear cookies, history, and perhaps cache when the browser is exited.

I missed this thread and started one of my own.

Back on my PC. I tried the complete shut down as well as clearing anything stored as cookies or whatever. Nothing works. I could not even post this reply on my I-pad before getting the kiss of death Amazon redirect.

This is not a problem on my PC. It is a problem on my I-pad that I have used to access Lumberjocks for years. Nothing I can do on my end (shutting down, rebooting, clearing the cache, etc.) seems to work. Is there any hope?

I have tied all of those suggestions (except the hammer), hopefully one of them will resolve the issue. Since I’m only having issues with LJ’s, I don’t think it’s my iPad.

I had the same problem as the OP, with the same temporary solution (shutting down the Safari browser and navigating back to LJs). LJs is the only site where I’m getting the Amazon prize winner popup. I have not seen it on my Mac laptop—just the iPhone and iPad.

If I understand the problem correctly, and I may not, but it sounds like that particular ad is exploiting Chrome (and Safari apparently) to create a persistent popup. The one thing I know for sure is that I’ve never gotten the popup on MS Edge.

On an iPad it is thru safari. I had this issue the other day and it was when I was on this sight.
