Do you have to put in the dado cartridge if you use a dado blade? Has anyone tried to run the saw with the normal cartridge in while using a dado blade?

Yes. The saw recognizes that you’ve got the dado set (8”) and the regular brake (for 10” blade) installed, and won’t run. There’s a small range of correct distance between blade and brake, and with this setup, the brake is over an inch away.
