Greetings everyone! I normally refrain from asking help on the topic, but I have some wood I picked up from a gentleman giving it away locally. Was listed as “barn wood” but after milling it in the planer it displayed some beautiful figure underneath I have not encountered before. I have tried looking at multiple databases online, but am coming up dry. Does anyone have any indication as to the species? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Hi,
Looks like pine but you would know that by the smell going through the planer. It also looks like hickory which has a sweet smell as well.

Thank all of you for your input. My neighbor’s friend is an arborist and swung by this morning to take a look. Confirmed it is indeed poplar.
