I set out yesterday to buy a Laguna 14/12 BS as it was my only day off in the foreseeable future, I had the green light from the wife and the $ was burning a hole in the cookie jar so the stars were aligned. There is a place about an hours drive from me that sells them for $995 but when I called he said he was out of stock until Friday. Darn! So I headed to Rockler which is about 15 mins away to grab some pen blanks and low and behold there was a pallet of 14-12’s being unloaded! Lagunas 10% off sale starts Friday (the guy who sells them for $995 won’t take another 10% off) so I asked Rockler if I could buy it at the sale price since he said that the last time Laguna had a sale they sold the whole pallet in one day. No. Can I pay for it now and you hold it until Friday? No. Can I give you my credit card info and you run it on Friday? No. Can I call on Friday at 9am and give you my card info and you run it then? No. Can I pay full price today, leave it there until Friday, then return it and then buy it at the sale price? No. Can I pledge the life of one of my adult children? No. WTF? Is there any other way I can try and spend my money here?? We were both good natured about it. He just said that Laguna could void their sales agreement if they detected any pre-selling and Rockler doesn’t allow them to take cc info over the phone. Finally, with a pledge to somehow get there on Friday the mgr agreed to put my name on one and hold it until I or one of the children whose life I was willing the trade got there.

I bought a Laguna bandsaw a couple of years ago from WoodWerx (now they are ThisIsWoodWorking.com)

The Jet sale is nationwide. ThisIsWoodWorking is selling the saw for 10% off right now, ($989), probably no sales tax and a $75 shipping fee including liftgate. Chances are the saw is drop shipped directly from Laguna right to your door…

Thanks. But it works out to be about a push by the time I pay shipping which is about equal to the sales tax. Plus no chance of it being damaged in shipping and I get to deal locally with someone that knows me if I have a problem.

MY experience with Laguna was so bad I won’t ever buy their products again. Rockler wasn’t much help dealing with them either. They seemed too afraid to lose Laguna as a supplier and would rather lose a customer.

Don’t blame a store for following contractual obligations. Blame Laguna 100% for making it that way.

Was your bad experience relatively recently (last 2-3 years) or older? They seem to have gotten better. I have a couple year old 14-12, love it, and have gotten good customer support from Laguna.

Apparently Laguna’s customer support has gotten better based on recent reviews.

I would have preferred to buy from the independent distributor rather than the Rockler Borg Collective but driving an hour was not something I was willing to do.

I had a similar experience with tickler and an Incra router lift. 20% coupon good for one day only. 90min drive. Coupon in store only. Would not take the card info over the phone. Ended up working a deal with my boss to make up the time so I could get out there.

I can see the reasons for not at taking CC info over the phone. And for not wanting to hold on to match for people that may never show up to get it. And even for a one day only coupon. But for cripe sake at least do the one day on a weekend or a night you are open longer hours.

Don’t get me wrong. I have no issue with Rockler or Laguna. (YET!!) It was just about how much effort I had to spend trying to give thim my $1K.

Andy – it was about a year ago if my memory is correct. I have heard that Laguna’s customer service has improved.
