Is a 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 set of mortise chisels adequete for most situations? Is it at least a good start?
I have a set of Narex bevel chisels that I really like. I might supplement my arsenel with the Narex mortise chisels.

Throw in a 1/2” just for giggles.

Agree with Bill. The 1/2” size is most useful.

Do learn how to chop mortises by hand. It’s fun (for a bit) and
a good workout.
