Topic tags/keywords: question search feature advertising

Went to do a search on shop made tool holders and when I get to the bottom of the page to go to the next page is an advertising banner preventing you from going to the next page. Now I understand the need to advertise but does anyone think you are going to give them a look when it prevents one from continuing their search? This is very frustrating that one does not have a choice in how many pages one can search. I would think that someone would have enough brains to not block a page function. Seems like Escalate Media is screwing up a good site with such stupid nonsense to me. I will have to start finding other forums to do searches on if this continues to prevent the LJ’s search feature.

is this the section you are having difficulties with? (located at the bottom of the list of search items)
I searched several pages and everything worked fine for me.

It’s very frustrating for everyone – especially those setting up the sites – that every browser reads codes differently.

Yes Debbie, only the banner was covering the previous 1 2 3 4 5 next so that I couldn’t go to the next page. I could go back by hitting the back button on my browser but not advance to the next page. I would have to go back to the first page to select the next page I wanted. I don’t mind the banner so much, as I do the blocking the advancing to the next page. This has not been a problem in the past. Its only on this site that it is a problem. I guess the heat of the moment made it sound like more of a rant than a notification and for that I apologize.

I can understand the frustration.

Greg, I don’t have this problem. Maybe it is just your browser screwing up. I can see how that would suck. I use Firefox and I have had a few problems but they seem to get fixed after notifying either Firefox or the Gurus here. Hope it get fixed.

that new coding system (from what I’ve heard) is something that is being developed for the internet. I don’t know if they have it finalized or implemented yet.

I do know that Martin is constantly working at “working around” browser updates that change things all the time.

I went and did this search, and then I clicked on my browser’s back button, and the ad was covering up the numbers at the bottom, when I click my forward button on the browser, the numbers were available again
for some reason when you click the back button on the browser, numbers at the bottom, get covered up, with the ad

The new advertising videos and other well off topic advertising that is no dead center in the page, is no covering photographs of projects. I’m not saying it’s covering the whole photograph, but it’s enough to annoy and make one wonder when we will have to watch a commercial before view each and every project. I come to this site because quite frankly it was extremely well laid out, and focused on the topic of woodworking.

Please find a way to sell your advertising, but get it out of the way of the real reason people come to this web site. I do not need a cooking tip video in the way of seeing comments on a project, or even in the center section of page.

PLEASE re-think and remember why the site was created in the first place.

thank you.

Scott

I know there is a different layout for those who are not members or when you are not signed in.. but I don’t think there is anything covered up by advertisements.

Perhaps it is a browser issue.

I know we need advertising to keep this site (and many others) running, but I will often intentionality not check out a product when they inundate a web page with ads. The worst are the targeted ads that look at your browsing history so they can place relevant ads on the page. I know someone thinks their advertising dollars are better spent on targeted ads but I would never click on one.
