Topic tags/keywords: sander question

I have the Grizzly G0716 drum sander & while it’s more for light duty, it works fine for me… except I dread having to change the sand paper. I find it really difficult to get the last of the roll into the tension slot/clamp.

While Grizzly has a hook & loop conversion for some of larger drum sanders, nothing for this one.
Has anyone found a conversion “kit” for this unit? I’d sure appreciate any info/advice.
Thanks!

Look around the SandMaster web site and see if their kits would work.

Kelly, I checked the site out but for some reason I could not find way to search for info. The site I was checking is in the UK, was that the one you suggest?
Thanks.

Here’s another link for those pages, which might have more choices:

http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/sandpaper-rolls.html

Keep in mind these are used on the Sandmaster and their claim to fame is, the centrifugal force lifts the hook & loop, thus the paper, off the drum a little leaving an air gap. This means cooler running so longer lasting paper.

The down side would seem to be you MUST keep moving or suffer snipe, because of the expansion.

Thanks Kelly, I really appreciate your help/input. After looking at the info, not sure that would work for me on my sander.

Yeah, you definitely don’t want to use adhesive sandpaper.

I’ll bet you the conversion kit would work on yours. Its really just a matter of putting the hook tape on the drum.

BTW I did this on mine and I think the paper retains more heat because now I get burn marks on light colored wood which I never did before. Something to consider.

rwe2156 – appreciate your input… as noted I am using the Grizzly G0716, what sander are you using?
