This is a Calif. HUGE tax increase, pretending to be for roads, etc. etc. BUT, we all know that it will go to Pay for Union Retirement plans, Pensions, etc. etc. NOT ONE penny will go toward Roads, etc. We have seen this happen before… This is NOT the first time… This IS THE FIRST TIME that it will be a horrendous Increase… More than Pennies… DOLLARS!! Will be VERY BAD for an already VERY BAD ECONOMY in Calif!

Callifornia… NOT National!!

Yep. Trump has nothing to do with this. It’s Brown Rot! A plague we have been suffering through for way too long here!
I’m afraid that this money that Gov Brown has stolen from us will go to pay Nancy Pelosi’s husband for the “High Speed Fail” project.
Mean while I just about get my fillings rattled out every day on my way to work. HWY 99 is a mess!

They take the taxes that they said would go toward the Roads, etc. AND USE THEM FOR OTHER THINGS!

THIS TIME will be NO different… BUT BIG TIME $$$... NOT just a little Increase… For YEARS!!

Sign the Petition to STOP this HUGE recurring LONG TERM gas tax increase… THIS ONE will REALLY HURT Calif. for YEARS to come! STOP IT, Sign it. Thank you.

The only choice you have is to throw the bums out, starting with the entrenched Brown and Pelosi rot.

Kind of telling that they won’t allow you to read the petition unless you give them a name and email address, win-win for someone.

From the actual petition:

Repeals a 2017 transportation law’s tax and fee provisions that pay for repairs and improvements to local roads, state highways, and public transportation. Requires the Legislature to submit any measure enacting specified taxes or fees on gas or diesel fuel, or on the privilege to operate a vehicle on public highways, to the electorate for approval. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Reduced annual state transportation tax revenues of $2.9 billion in 2018-19, increasing to $4.9 billion annually by 2020-21. These revenues would primarily have supported state highway maintenance and rehabilitation, local streets and roads, and mass transit. In addition, potentially lower transportation tax revenues in the future from requiring voter approval of such tax increases, with the impact dependent on future actions by the Legislature and voters.

So even the people wanting a repeal admit the funds will pay for roads and streets. I guess quality infrastructure isn’t on Putin’s agenda.

The proposed constitutional amendments (full title and text of the measure) read as follows:

SECTION 1. STATEMENT OF FINDINGS AND PURPOSES
(a) California’s taxes on gasoline and car ownership are among the highest in the nation. (b) These taxes have been raised without the consent of the people. (c) Therefore, the people hereby amend the Constitution to require voter approval of the recent increase in the gas and car tax enacted by Chapter 5 of
the Statutes of 2017 and any future increases in the gas and car tax.

SECTION 2. VOTER APPROVAL FOR INCREASES IN GAS AND CAR TAX Section 3.5 of Article XIII A of the California Constitution is added to read:
Sec. 3.5(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Legislature shall not impose, increase or extend any tax, as defined in section 3, on the sale, storage, use or consumption of motor vehicle gasoline or diesel fuel, or on the privilege of a resident of California to operate on the public highways a vehicle, or trailer coach, unless and until that proposed tax is submitted to the electorate and approved by a majority vote.
(b) This section does not apply to taxes on motor vehicle gasoline or diesel fuel, or on the privilege of operating a vehicle or trailer coach at the rates that were in effect on January 1, 2017. Any increase in the rate of such taxes imposed after January 1, 2017 shall cease to be imposed unless and until approved by the electorate as required by this section.

Rick,

The LAW, containing this increase, is a BIG FAT LIE… just more of the same as they have done in the past; BUT, this time it is more aggressive, HIGHER, and going for YEARS & YEARS! NONE of this increase will be used for Roads, etc. etc.

Why not take the money that HAS ALREADY BEEN VOTED ON, has been collected, and USED for Pensions & Union Labor instead of Roads, etc. etc. and put towards ROADS, etc. etc.?

Our IMMEDIATE choice to do some good, is to repeal this tax increase to STOP the VERY BAD LAW.

Voting the other people OUT and Replacing them is a longer range goal which is probably more of DREAM than something Real & Probable.

Somehow, I get the feeling that you LIKE the proposed gas tax increase!
... I guess I’m wasting my time talking to you, as usual… OH well, I think there are MORE people in Calif. that are AGAINST this law and want to repeal it THAN are FOR the increase.

You aren’t arguing with me, the words you are calling a lie are in the petition. If the law is a lie, the petition writers are also liars. Have you considered that maybe, it’s the people telling you it’s a lie, that are the liars?

FYI, the law has already been passed, this is a petition to repeal it. As for being a fan, I am not, because it disproportionally harms the working class. Which is why I would also oppose the 75 cent national hike the Republicans are planning. I believe they should tax transportation companies, and yes, that cost will trickle down but much more fairly. But at the end of the day we need to maintain our infrastructure.

Rick,
The petition is an IMPROVEMENT on the existing BAD law.

It was available to read a few weeks ago…

It IS to OUR benefit to repeal the existing law via the petition.

If you don’t think so, don’t sign the petition…

I have signed it a long time ago… and would do it again, if I could.

Good Luck!

That’s Trump endorsing the republican plan of 25 cents. He wanted his own 50 cents to pay for infrastructure, aka his Mexican wall.
