Topic tags/keywords: social media facebook twitter instagram snapchat blog

With so many woodworkers on here, I’m curious how you utilize social media in your woodworkong (or even if you do).

Regardless if your a hobbyist, working as a side gig, or full time; do you utilize any social media for your projects? It can be anything from Facebook, LumberJocks Forums, SnapChat, Instagram, Twitter, Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr, whatever it is, what do you use and how do you use it?

The only social media I use is Lumberjocks. I really enjoy blogging about my project builds and the projects pages are a great way to showcase things once completed. I hate Facebook and the other platforms you mention make no sense to me.

I’m sort of in the middle of relaunching myself and my “brand” at the moment. I started out as a freelance picture framer for hire at other galleries and framing studios. Using media like Facebook and Instagram helped me reach potential clients and connect with more professionals in the industry. I would post projects from the shops I worked in and tag their business in them to help promote their services as well as the capability of my own services.

This year is rebuilding year for me. My business has been on hold as my fiance and I bought a new house and we are getting married in a few months. When I relaunch my business will be more retail customer driven and not industry driven.

I’m curious for those who perform as a business how much social media has impacted their business. Seeing people like Nick Ferry and April Wilkerson launch podcasts, Instagram feeds, and YouTube channels is intriguing to see how much it’s changed their business.

Chris, there are some good podcasts on the subject, Like Made for Profit and $mart Passive Income. I only use social media as a hobbyist so I can’t really answer the main question.

Trump has stated that illegal aliens use social media to keep abreast of what’s happening in America. I wonder if there are any on this 245,000 strong site?

This is the ONLY Social Media Site I use. If you want Everyone in the World to know who you are and what your doing try FACEBOOK! They’re good at NO Privacy! They use the term “Sharing”!

Unfortunately some people are addicted to Facebook (including a Couple on here. Wanna Guess Who?) and we’re on there!

That’s enough. I might get into some Trouble if I add any more!

None. I’m not that interested in my own life. I’m not sure what makes people so arrogant to think that I’m interested in their lives. :)

LoL

Legal aliens do that too.

So do we Citizens.

None of us, legal, illegal, or native can trust the mainstream media.

But we also can’t trust half the Social Media!

Chris:
When I started out with my guitar business, I started with a FB page dedicated to the guitars. I would talk about them, post a lot of pictures of them, and I had a few hundred followers. To be honest, maybe over the 9-10 year period, sold maybe two guitars due to that page, but it was cheap advertising.

After a couple years later, I started a website, and had pictures of all my guitars, and added some other things that I was doing. The beauty of this was anybody could go to my website, look over the pics, and decide what they wanted. Not all the pictures were on FB, and not everyone is on FB. The website was better.
I’m out of building guitars now, and the website and FB page went down in January 2017.

About September 2015, I opened an Etsy store that sells golf club hat racks, and a couple other things. To date, I’ve sold about 175 golf club hat racks, and it does OK, not lighting the house on fire, but steady.

I don’t do Twitter or any of the other text based quickie services. Too many people with too much time on their hands, and a lot of them are negative. Don’t need it. Facebook is similar, but I kept it up and overall, the results were positive, even if it did not drive many sales. I got a few musicians who were playing my guitars, they posted pics of themselves playing on the page.

I also did a couple YouTube videos, as did some owners. You can still see some of them. Just type in Tsunami Guitars on YouTube, and they will pop.
I also got into a gallery, and now a second, and they sell a lot of my stuff. No guitars ever in the galleries.

So a multi-pronged approach.
