I am looking to purchase a straight edge to help with getting my table saw up and running. So far I have been impressed with Woodpeckers 36 inch SERXL-36. Do you know of a straight edge that is similar quality at a lesser price? I don’t need all the bells and whistles.

I’ve found 24” adequate for most woodworking.

For longer I use a 78” level. I have one that
got bent though so I had to replace it.

I don’t recall using a straight edge to adjust a
table saw. I’m not sure what you’re doing but it
can probably be managed without investing in
a new tool.

Lee Valley sells a few different types, I have the 24” steel one, so far all I really need.

I have the Lee Valley 38” aluminum straight edge which is about $42. It has worked well for me in machine setup.

I think you picked the right one out of the gate. The guys at Carbide Processors are incredible. I buy all my Woodpecker stuff from them!

These look pretty good for the price.

I borrowed our steel 24” cylinder head SE from work and trusted it. I also checked some long extruded aluminum from a pet door against the edge and found it adequate also.

All good prices cited at length that I have seen.

Another vote for Lee Valley

You were thinking of spending around $60 for 36”. Lee Valley has their Veritas brand in aluminum. 38” for $41 (these look very similar to the ones bondogaposis posted. Right now Lee Valley has free shipping and you probably would not pay sales tax)

You can always step up to a Starret 36” in steel but that will set you back $212!

Link to the aluminum ones. I have their 50” and a 24”

I will add that Woodpecker makes a 36”

Have your say...
