Topic tags/keywords: dust collector question reviews should i buy

Hello,

I have a lead on a Jet Dc-1182 dust collector from sometime in the 80s. It is 2 go single phase and says it’s CFM’s should be around the 1100 range. The person is asking 150 for it.

My goal is to convert it to a canister filter and a cyclone separator in the long run. My shop setup that I feel would be ideal would mean running roughly 20 to 30 feet of ductwork to get to my tools to put the machine in another room.

New to DC so any info would be helpful in regards to this purchase. At the moment my only other option is a harbor freight model given my budget.

Thanks,
Justin Landry

I doubt it’s anywhere in the 1100 range, except on paper. That said, the price puts it in the area of a HF collector, with the discount coupons. If it has a bigger impeller, it would be, I think, the better deal.

If you get right down to it, most collectors run far more than $150.00.

After you get the beast, consider swapping the upper bag for a finer one. Better yet, for improved draw and all around performance, think about a pleated cartridge.

Most units come with bags that are best described as “dust pumps.” They do get the big stuff, but they leave the nasties floating in the air, where your lungs will filter it.

Have your say...
