My son and I popped in and had a peek at this event this morning between running our weekend errands

Had a good time fondling some nicely balanced planes, dovetail saws, files and the like. Everything was open and available to hold and even try if you wanted. It was a really impressive line-up of tools; even my 9 yr old thought they had ‘super smooth’ handles and felt ‘good’.
I have been wanting to make a bench so I was most attracted to their demo bench with bench dogs and a tail vise.
I got to play with that tail vise on the L-N bench and it was gorgeous. I fight trying to keep stock still with a bench hook on a wobbly 2×4 pine home depot special shop table which is fine, but not designed for planing wood. This was a first hands on with a real woodworking bench for me and really has given me ideas for my future one.

I would suggest anyone interested in hand tools attend such an event if it comes to their area…even a few minutes like we took has left an impression on me.

Cheers

Those Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Events sure seem to be nice. One day I’m going back to Canada to revisit friends and relatives, and I hope I’ll be able to attend such an event on the same trip.

Hi Ken
If you plan a trip to the States, you could try to make it coincide with a visit to L-N Headquarters.
On their website, they do tours plus a lobster bake dinner…sounds like fun!

Did you buy anything? Those events get you hooked. You end up buying sooner or later

No, we were severely time limited, so it was just a quick visit
