Topic tags/keywords: norm new yankee woodworker humor question

Has anyone besides me noticed that Norm Abrams has reached Elvis status?
I mean, he is one of if not the only person woodworkers know who you are talking about just by mentioning his first name.
Think about it. About the only time you see or hear his last name is during the credit roll during “New Yankee Workshop” or “This Old House”.
Also, he is treated almost like a rock star whenever he makes public appearances.
Not bad for an unassuming woodworker from Massachusetts.

He has made a “name” for himself, hasn’t he.

He promotes a style of woodworking, ya can’t really knock him. But I do not think he is cool enough to rival the King. I just can’t see him raising a lip and addressing anyone ...pretty mamma! : — )

David Marks is my rock star. You do have to use both names, however.

I get the “Oh, are you trying to look like Al [Boreland]?” when I grow my beard out. Pretty annoying. If I mention Norm or Bob Vila, I usually get a “The old house guy?”

Y’all seem to be a bit confused.
I was just commenting on Norm’s single name status in the world of woodworking, not his popularity vs. The King.

Norm has carved out (no pun intended) a very nice business for himself – having met the man in person in business a few times, he is as nice, and soft spoken in person as he is on TV——he is truly a gentlemen.
Good things happen to good people.

I like Norm… He still presents a very good show… His way.

I like the way he’s also covering Finishing techniques on his newer shows.

I will not get tired of watching him… reruns & all.

He has helped me a lot…

I ran into him at Mystic Seaport a couple of years back. He’s a real personable guy, approachabe, friendly and willing to talk about things they are working on for the show.

Name recognition … yes
“Ladies and Gentlemen… Norm has left the building” nope
