I have a couple of loads of old material to denail before I can begin the process of turning it into usable cabinet stock.

Does someone have a lead on a GOOD nail finder especially for those that may have broken off beneath the surface?

I would appreciate any suggestions on this seeing as many of you have indicated that you salvage old but useable lumber.

Thanks in advance, Norm.

I have that same Wood Wizard metal detector. It works very well.

I just picked up some used 12/4 oak planks and it was able to detect a few nails that were almost 1-1/2” below the surface.

I watch alot of Alton Brown….he’s the cooking guy, Good Eats…anyway…I subscribe to his philosophy of multi-tasking….

I use a regular old metal detector. It’s as cheap as a fancy wand and I don’t have to crawl on the ground to find property stakes and old crap the previous owner of my property decided to leave behind. It will detect alot more than an inch or two.

It does not have an accurate center as the wand might. But, so far I’ve found anything it has told me was there.

I use the Wood Wizard. Works fine. I got it after nicking jointer knives with a nail.
