Morning all. I recently posted a pair of night tables to the site. Lumberjocks posted that on Facebook. Not an issue. Scrolling through FB the other day I saw the same post made it to another wood working sites post on FB. Didn’t know the site existed, never mind posting too or giving permission to use my pics. I’ve heard of this before, but 1st time with the experience. Any thoughts?

I think this is what the Robot Web Crawlers pickup and post to whoever buys them.
big business in the Cyber World !!!! 1/10th of which I understand.

and – web crawlers don’t need your permission nor do they ask for it –
they just simply take your stuff like a thief in the night.

this is why you should never-ever post anything on the WWW that you are not willing to share with the WORLD.

I hate Facebook….This is one reason (your example) why I would never post anything on there…Too many thieves and hackers that don’t mind ripping you off….People who use Facebook, Twitter, etc. are easy prey….!!

Facebook is the Devil. They want to control everything their members see and think. However, if you want some good laughs, check out some of the woodworking groups. You will see some of the most absurd, clueless and ignorant “advice” given to woodworking questions.

Mark – the past few days I have been getting email messages from Pinterest about
specials and projects that “I may be interested in due to my search history”.
after several attempts to “unsubscribe” from all their lists that I have NEVER subscribed to in the first place,
I traced all the “subscriptions” back to FACEBOOK !!! yes – the devil FACEBOOK !!!
when trying to delete and unsubscribe myself from all their lists, nothing worked.
I am still getting junk mail now from facebook AND pinterest.

I give up

Your post has not been hacked. If you look at the top right hand corner of this site, you will see the icons for our social media pages. LumberJocks.com often shares projects on our social media pages. They are linked directly to your project. People who see things they like may also share with their friends.Sometimes pages with similar interest will also share a project or post. If the other page that posted your project did so without it being linked to your project, you can report that to Facebook.

Yer absolutely right Cricket. And as I said I have no problem with L/J posting any thing I post on FB. The site in question did have a link to the original post on LJ. It just kinda creeps me out the way things move around and the original poster has no clue what the f—- is going on. As I’m not posting secret rocket fuel it’s not really a big deal….but still. Seems to me things were so much easier 50 yrs ago.

I wouldn’t go near Facebook if you Paid Me! EVERYTHING You put on there makes the rounds to every Site Zuckenburg gets paid for. That includes Government Sites. HINT: Don’t say the wrong thing or else ….

  • “If you look at the top right hand corner of this site, you will see the icons for our social media pages. LumberJocks.com often shares projects on our social media pages. They are linked directly to your project.”
.......Are these icons on a special page because I can’t see them at all?

I really do NOT want anything of mine going to Facebook! BUT! If that’s how it is. That’s it, I guess. i Will be more careful as to what I say and put on here now!

They have Billions Of Subscribers all over the World. There is NO Privacy to anything you Post there. It will go everywhere. Don’t ever put anything on there that you don’t want Everyone to know!

From One Of Our LJ Members ….”Beware of this site. They have stolen The Wood Whisperer’s logo and is trying to sell those bundles of stolen and copyright infringed woodworking plans.
Don’t give them any money or personal information.
Just an FYI so we don’t get scammed.
Please spread this around to as many sites and people that you can.”*

Just to clarify, the only thing we share on Facebook is links to projects etc, which are already public. When something is shared, it will also display the image.

Thank You Cricket. Exactly what I was looking for. Those 4 Social Media Icons do NOT show up on my screen.

I got your Mail and you are using Google Chrome same as me. Yes! It might be an extension. However I’m done with this Topic.

Many THANKS for your help!

Regards: Rick

Google one of your projects and see how many times it appears, you will be shocked and amazed.
Sometimes it will be credited back to LJs sometimes it will not.
Just ask Fancy Chip.

Post something on the internet and expect it to be visible the whole world.

Right On Rob! Personally, I don’t think we need those “Social Connections” on here. They DON’T appear on any page I go on but I’m sure they still go .

Zuckenberg is a Multi Millionaire or Billionaire but He always wants more and that comes down to Personal POWER!

He uses and pushes “Share” that way it all Hangs Out There and it goes wherever He wants it to. To Him “Privacy” is a Dirty Word.

He’s also In Bed with a number of Government Agencies that He feeds Info to. I’m sure that gets Him a nice pile of “Fees” and a nice Tax Break.

Oh well! That’s the way it is and there isn’t POOP we can do about it!

FWIW we have had most of the same social media accounts since 2 or 3 owners ago

As an example, the Twitter account was created in 2008.
