Topic tags/keywords: free shipping discounts resource

When ordering a couple hinges (2) today from Rockler, the shipping was an additional $8.95, so I did a quick internet search and found free a shipping code here: http://www.retailmenot.com/. i entered the code and “free shipping”.

So this has me wondering if any LJ’s have found other alternatives to get free shipping/discounts when ordering online?

Nice find and it has many WW sites, though it doesn’t look like Lee Valley/Veritas participates here even though they do have a current free shipping event going on. Thanks for the heads-up…

Yep. I always scan the net for coupon codes before I order anything. I also signed-up at Fatwallet.com. While Rockler does not participate with FW, several other internet retailers do. FW not only keeps a running log of current specials, they also maintain an online forum where the world’s greatest cheapskates congregate and share their latest methods for shaving down prices. And many of the participating retailers offer 2-10% rebates for anything ordered from FW members.
Harbor Freight (for example) offers 5%. Its not huge savings, but it does offset the 5% sales tax that my state often hits me with.
They way I see it, a coupon that saves me $7-8 dollars off my sub total, is as good as free shipping. If I save myself 20-30 miles worth of driving by having it shipped, the gas savings really gets me ahead.

Amazon Prime membership, given that you can add all family members, is also another great way to get free shipping.

I have yet to see free shipping to Alaska. We are the exception in small print at the bottom of all the ads. Oh well. Fortunately, we do have some good stores up here…...........

$8.95 for 2 hinges is a rip.
Some of these companies seem to make their margins on the “shipping and handling” side of the invoice.
I wait for free shipping when possible (as in right now for Rockler).

sites like retailmenot, and many others are great, but they rely on their users to post codes they get through the email specials and mailers, so arent always reliable, I just google “( store) coupon code” and try a few sites, there are a million out there. also, like I said they rely on people submitting codes, so if you get a code and appreciate it, return the favor next time you get an ad from an online store you like.

...and unfortunately, rarely does “free shipping” cross the border into us folk in Canada…
