Topic tags/keywords: jet jws-22cs 1-12hp shaper spindle speed

I recently bought a building that had previously been used for cabinet making. In the building I found a Jet JWS-22CS, 1-1/2HP Shaper. I’ve spent some time, effort, and money to get the shaper working again. I found all the parts I needed at ereplacementparts.com. When I turn the shaper on, it seems to run really slow. I looked online at the owner’s manual and it talks a little about changing speeds on the shaper but doesn’t give instructions on how to change the speed. I’m using the 3/4” shaft with and ogee cutter.

The only adjustment of any kind is the drive belt tension which, if too tight can slow the shaft down but doesn’t do anything to speed it up. Does anyone on this forum know how to change the speed?

Thanks in advance.

The motor and spindle sheeves probably have two available positions for the belt.

Enjoy
