Hello again,

Yep it’s me seeking to pick some more brains !

Current situation: Constant speed routers.

I love Porta cable tools and have several routers of this make and a few others.

My mistake was in purchasing the soft start models when I bought, not being aware that this feature excludes the use of conventional speed control units. [ at this point I was not running large bits ]

That’s why they still put erasers on pencils I suppose!

Still and with all of the things available, I wonder if this capability is not achievable in one fashion or another, excluding the idea of purchasing a new variable speed.

While I have picked brains for many years and have drawers loaded with brains, a search through them has yeilded nothing.

If someone can share a brain on this issue I will copy it and promise to send it back in good condition,
thanks, Norm.

I’m not clear on exactly what you are asking?

So what happens when you hook a soft start, non-variable speed unit to a speed control unit? Does the unit not start? I don’t have any experience with this at all, so my advice isn’t great, but I would have thought you could start the router with the speed control set to full and once the router started you could dial down to the desired speed? Or not?
