Good evening!

I have no experience choosing or installing hinges for anything but an interior door! I’m working on a case for my father-in-law’s revolvers and I’m not sure what to do for a hinge. I’d like the lid to open past 90 degrees and stay open. Browsing Rockies and Woodcraft, there are dozens of hinge options but I don’t understand how they are measured well enough to know what I need.

The walls are 1/2” thick.

Can anyone recommend a hinge type for me and help me understand how measurements are specified on hinges? If my walls are 1/2” thick, I’d think I need 3/8” hinges or so but I can’t find any that size!

Potentially… do these types of hinges close flush? So essentially I would drill out holes for the barrels in the wall of the lid and the box, and the barrels would sit on top of each other when closed?

Yes, found a blog here on lumberjocks that shows installation

Although I’d have thought a quadrant hinge was more what you were looking for.
