Topic tags/keywords: question tip trick

I am started to plan out for a mobile assembly table for my 16’ x 24’ shop that is shared between car repairs and wood shop so the table may have to pulled outside on the gravel/grass now and then to make room for car repairs. So my question is, would the larger Heavy-Duty Polyurethane Casters be able to roll a assembly table (around 48”x48”) with gear in it over short distances on gravel/grass? if not any suggestions on what i could use?

any suggestions related to mobile assembly tables are welcome also.

I don’t think so. You need to be looking for something on the order of what’s used on large ride on lawn mowers, probably pneumatic.

Is $66 each too much?

Just kidding. What’s a short distance? 10 feet you could probably manage with 6” casters, but dragging it down a gravel road or soft ground might not be so easy. Also depends how loaded up it is. My assembly table is only a table so it’s relatively light.

Making a torsion box table is the one way to make a very flat assembly table. Just Google it.

well i was planning on building something along of the lines of the assembly table Marc build but around 48” x 48” or less so it will have a fair bit of weight to it.

and for distance i would only drag it out the garage door and off to the side while the car repair is being done and then i would drag it back in. for the most part it would be in the shop but maybe once every month or two it will have to be moved out. and ya $66 for each wheel is a little to high, it would be around $325 after tax and shipping just on wheels lol
