I’ve been away for awhile and wonder if it’s just me but the ads seem to be appearing and interfering with a lot of the functions – ie covering up the logout spot as well as coming into the zoom in areas of the photos. Is this affecting anyone else’s viewing?

Same problem here. Looks like LJ is also tracking what websites you visit on the particular computer your using. For example why when I log in using my wifes Mac ads for Neiman Marcus show up? She shops from that site all the time but that never shows up when I use my Mac. Oh well.

That’s true Frank!!!! The exact jacket I was looking at keeps appearing! I don’t mind ads except when they interfere with the website’s main content.

Not me. I can ”Instantly” adjust the Magnification Level of the Page if things get to crowded. It’s set at 120% righr now and everything is viewable.

If you click on “My Lumber Jocks” to bring down your “Menu”, to click on whatever you want and/or “Sign Out” that you’ve referred to as “Logout”, the Drop Down Menu should cover any Ad that is there.

Okay. I just increased my Page Magnification to 130%. It Chops Off Part of the Drop Down Menu but it still covers the Ad. You can’t see the word “Sign Out” but clicking on the “Light brown Line” will still Sign You Out.

Also at 120% there is NO Left To Right Slider Bar at the bottom of the Screen, which means I’m viewing the entire page. At 130% there IS a Bar to move the Page Left to Right, and Right to left.

When you use the ”ZOOM” feature it should also cover anything that is there.

Frank: I think that’s a seperate problem all together. You Wifes Computer probably has ”Cookies” on it from the places you mentioned. It doesn’t show up on yours because you don’t have their “Cookie” on yours. It’s probably more GOOGLE tracking your activities than LJ’s.

It’s the main reason I have a “Cookie Cleaner, Temp File Cleaner & History Cleaner (all one progam)” on my Computer. MS Disc Cleanup, Tools, Internet Options, won’t even touch this stuff.

Yes. LJ’s also have Cookies and with all the RSS Feeds we now have going on here (near the bottom of the page) ANYTHING, any body puts on here could end up going ANYWHERE.

It might also depend on whose Browser you are using.

MacAfee is always asking if I want to allow those pesty sales tracking sites when I am on certain places, especially Amazon. I only have one that shos up occasionally.

I have had problems intermittently. I have PM’d Martin and he’d like a screen shot of the page with the ads on it. If anyone gets one, can you shoot it to Martin? I’m not tech savvy enough to get it right!
Thanks.

OK girls and guys – I’ll probably get booted off of this site for telling you but I use Firefox as my browser and run an add-on called “Adblock Plus”. It is a small plug in you install on your browser and once installed you have (you guessed it!) NO ADS! Here on LJ’s – I only see content. That’s It! My pages are clean and uncluttered. Same on Facebook and everything else. It may interfere if you play some games or such, but I don’t so it is WAY COOL.

I know I sound like an ad here myself, but I tell you, I love it. It is free and takes two minutes to install and your problems are done! :)

Their website is Here But if you are running Firefox you can go to Tools – Ad-ons – and put it in the search box on the add on page and install it. Problem solved. :)

I haven’t had a problem with the ads infringing on LJ real estate. (I’m using Chrome)

As far as the tracking ads, it’s not specifically Lumberjocks that is tracking you, but the Google ad service the site uses. Here is an article written a couple of years ago when the system first came out.

Another vote for Firefox/Adblock as described by Shelia. You too can be a freeloader!

Who buys stuff from ads that pop up in the way of what they’re trying to read? And just how much less expensive could Progressive Insurance actually be if they didn’t pay for a hundred commercials a day on television? Hmmmm…Inquiring minds want to know.

I ignore most all ads, but I did sign up for the free Intuit credit card scanner because of an ad posted on Lumberjocks. Ads here are like anywhere else…you just ignore all the crap you are not interested in.
I guess it is just too enticing for Lumberjocjs owners to pass up the $$$ they are paid to place ads.

Who here would not accept money if some company offered to give it to us?

I’ve just thought this was a problem with Apple and their adversarial relationship with flash. Using Safari on a Mac here and I think this is the problem you’re describing

So there’s a logout option under there? I haven’t had a need to use that yet.

Yes Ballon Killer, that’s exactly what I see as well as the banner from the front page covering up the NEXT words on the zoom. I’m also using a Mac with Safari. I do have Firefox as well, but I never seem to use it. I will consider that now though.

BalloonKiller:

By any chance, are you related to the other LumberJock, who goes by the name of ”Pop ?”
