Purchased Freud SD208 Dado Stack. Was sent the SD208S stack. Are these the same?

Topic tags/keywords: question dado dado stack freud sd208 sd208s blade chippers

I’m new to dado stacks and looking for a little insight.

I purchased the Freud SD208 8-Inch Professional Dado set on Amazon (link here) The set arrived yesterday and it looks like they sent me the SD208S stack (link here)

Amazon is advertising the S version as the ‘new’ version. From reading a little online, it looks like the SD208S is advertised as being SawStop compatible whereas the 208 isn’t. This doesn’t matter for me, I don’t have a SS. Otherwise are these dado stacks essentially the same? It looks like they might have different chippers.

Any info would be helpful.

Amazon prime says this is the new model on the product page.

For one thing, there is a huge difference in the number of teeth on the blades in the two pictures you linked to. That could result in differing quality of the cut. The main difference in the lack of the “anti-kickback” feature on the SD208S. That is the small hump behind the teeth on the original model. Sawstop recommends not using blades with this feature since it may interfere with the functioning of the blade brake. Your link to the original states that it is out of stock. That may be why they sent you the substitute.

from what i find on the 208s:
The overall size of the blades has been slightly reduced, and the shoulders behind the teeth have been optimized, to prevent flesh-detection from accidentally activating.

Have your say...
