Topic tags/keywords: dust collector

This DC is listed locally on Craigslist for $150. Owner says he bought it new about 10 years ago and has about 40 hours on it. It is the older ‘green’ color.

I am looking for opinions on this machine. Thanks in advance!

Dave

UPDATE: 3/15/11 I looked at this machine this afternoon, it had a few small rust spots on the base and motor but didn’t look too bad for a 10 year old machine. It is noisy as others have said but I have good ear protection. I offered $125 and it is now mine! I would like to find different bags for it, a finer top and clear bottom. Thanks to those who replied.

Dave,
I have the exact same dust collector…..I too bought mine about 11-12 years ago. It has 1200 cfm, and I’ve got mine hooked to all my major machines via 4” runs and 4” drops. The only trouble I’ve had was last year a start capacitor burned out on it, but about $20.00 repalced that. Not one other problem in all them years. I did buy a Wynn canister last year to replace the cloth bags….If you get it, I would highly recommend doing that. They send you 3 clear heavy-duty bags for the lower bag replacement. It also increased the cfms somewhat….. If you can get it for $150.00, and everything works on it, I’d snag it in a heartbeat…..I’ve certainly been happy with mine all these years….
Edit: I’ve got way more than 40 hours on mine, so that d.c has hardly been used….. if it’s true.

Mine (Delta 50-850 1.5HP 1200 CFM Dust Collector) looks a lot like this, except it is grey (maybe greenish grey). I use it, not heavily, and have been happy with its performance. It comes (I think) with a 5 micron bag, and you’ll want to get a bag that traps smaller dust particles (I think I got a 1 micron version from Delta). These micron numbers are from my memory, which is suspect.

My main use is to pull dust out of my Delta Contractor table saw, which is equipped with a very efficient dust collection hood at the bottom of the trunnion box. This was custom made for me out of sheet metal. Because there is a downdraft around the saw blade, less dust is going into the air. More info here: https://sites.google.com/site/sawsuckerproject/home

Also built a downdraft sanding box. Although it is large and had many holes, there was so much pull from this DC that it made a loud howling/whistling noise. I had to enlarge the holes to make the noise go away.

Obviously a DC is going to have much better pull than a shop vac. Considering mine goes for $476 new (on Amazon), $150 sounds like a steal. Get it while you can!
