So my Dad got this clock somewhere 10 years ago, so it’s fairly old, and free to him and me of course. It looks like a paper drawing of a deer was glued to cypress cookie, then epoxy covered all. Neither of us like it, and was thinking on what it could be turned into?

It’s a 25” x 29” cypress tree from Louisiana, at 1 1/2” thick.

Problem is due to insertion of the clock, this big section is cut out leaving me only 1/4” of wood there.

Initially thought it could be a table… LJ Table

I’m considering using a “router sled for planing” and having a go at refinishing, but I’m running short of real estate due to hole in back, so I’m not sure what I can do?

Is this worth the effort? Or is there another use for this piece of wood that anyone can see?

Table sounds awesome. I’d probably turn or make a dowel to plug the holes and use the side with the small hole.

A router sled would work. Unless it came out perfect I’d probably go over it with a low angle block plane.

Upgrayedd gonna get his money.

The 2nd picture shows hole, it’s 5” diameter… problem. That’s the biggest limiting factor. Plus effectiveness on routing away the epoxy?

Thanks for help!

Clock table sounds awesome… just add 2×4s.

Use your router to route a true circle in the cookie and use a bandsaw or circle cutter of some sort to cut some cypress to fit.

Don’t know til you try but I’m guessing it’ll probably work.

Interesting idea Fridge, it could definitely work. Actually could be any shape insert to fill that section. It would be different.

Yep. I was thinking of a gap filler for the bottom side but it could be an accent as well. Maybe.

Maybe a built in beer holder :)

Indeed it does, with a 6 finger hand. I thought the same thing. One reason it should not be a clock

Epoxy the underside and use the hole for a cup/glass holder. Who else would have a table top with a built in coaster/cup holder? a chip dip reservoir? the kitty for the poker ante? even a flower pot holder?

Who knows you could be the start of a new fad. And it looks a lot nicer than those log lawn chairs.

Just funnin’. Have fun and don’t hold back. And let us see what you end up with.
